Tips for DAT/565

Question:
What are some tips for students starting DAT/565?
Answer:
DAT/565 (Data Analysis and Business Analytics)

Below you will see some useful resources to help you prepare for and complete your class successfully.
Intro to the Business Plan

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program concludes with the Integrative Business Capstone component, STR/581: Strategic Planning & Implementation. As part of the capstone course, you will create a business plan. You will prepare key portions of the business plan in 4 courses of your program:

  • FIN/571: Corporate Finance
  • DAT/565: Data Analysis and Business Analytics
  • OPS/574: Creating Value Through Operations
  • MKT/574: Marketing: Social, Mobile, & Analytics

The business plan you create will be for a company of your choice: a small business, a non-profit, manufacturer, or an existing company. You must have enough information about the company to be able to create a finance plan, a competitor or market analysis, operations plan, marketing plan, and strategic plan for them.

Once you have chosen a company, write an overview of the company, its mission and vision statements, and information about the products or services offered. This portion will be used in each of the components of your business plan.

Note: You might not necessarily take these courses in the same order as other students. Completion of all course requirements is required before you may enroll in your capstone course. If you have questions about your schedule, please reach out to your Academic Counselor.

Completing Signature Assignments

This course includes 3 signature assignments that require you to use the knowledge and skills you have learned in prior courses in addition to applying the knowledge and skills you are learning in this course. Your faculty member will use the rubric to grade your assignment.

Apply: The “Apply” assignments are higher stakes, worth more points, and have been made to demonstrate understanding of the information from the week.
