Edge has a known issue with Blackboard that causes a file to upload as a blank document if the document is open on the user's computer while uploading.
Resolution:

If you uploaded a document with Edge that shows up blank in Blackboard, please perform one of the following workarounds:

  • When uploading a document with Edge, ensure that the document is closed before select the file from your computer to be uploaded. Retry submitting your document ensuring that it is closed.
  • Use a different browser to upload your document such as Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer (Internet Explorer can only be used on Windows machine with an operating system prior to Windows 10).

To upload files using Edge in Blackboard perform one of the following:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Click View Advanced settings

  3. Scroll to bottom
  4. Turn on the switch Help protect me from malicious sites and downloads with Windows Defender SmartScreen

Alternate method
  • If a user does not wish to do this, they will have to attempt an upload and receive the prompt (at the end of the URL) that shows a protect warning icon. They will need to click and select “show all content”. This will refresh the page and then they can (re)upload.
