Error When Installing Oracle Database 11g Express Edition
Symptom:
When student tries to install Oracle Database 11g EX edition, the install wizard shows:
Checking for Oracle XE Service Instance: Failed
Cause:
  • OracleServiceXE is already running in Windows Services list
  • Oracle XE 10g is already installed
Resolution:
  1. Go to in the Control Panel, to verify that the Oracle XE 10g is installed not installed
  2. If installed proceed to have student uninstall and retry the installation again.
  3. If not installed go to Control Panel and then switch view mode to Large icons or Small icons
  4. Select Administrative Tools then Services
  5. Search for OracleServiceXE from the list. Advise student that they can delete this under their own discretion which will resolve the issue.
  6. To delete, have student open Command Prompt Administrator (WIN+R then type CMD) and enter delete OracleServiceXE

Note:It's important to type the service exactly how it shows in Windows Services list.
