When I attempt to open Riverpoint Writer in Microsoft Office Word 2016, the following error occurs:
The macros in this project are disabled. Please refer to the online help or documentation of the host application to determine how to enable macros.
This issue may be caused by one (1) or more of the following reasons:
- Microsoft Office Word is searching for files necessary to run Riverpoint Writer in an incorrect location
- The macros necessary to operate Riverpoint Writer are not trusted in Word
To resolve this issue, please perform one (1) of the following:
- Open Word
- Click File
- Click Options
- Select Trust Center under Word Options
- Click Trust Center Settings
- Select Trusted Locations
- Click Add new location
- Click Browse
- Click the path that includes your username in the User Locations list:
- Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[ProfileName]\Application Data\Riverpoint Writer
- Windows Vista and Windows 7 & 8: C:\Users\[ProfileName]\AppData\Roaming\Riverpoint Writer
Note: If you do not see the AppData folder when browsing to the location, you may have to make hidden files, folders, and drives visible. If you do not wish to make these files visible, please perform the following as an alternative:
- Cancel out of the Browse window & the New Location window
- Select the path ending in ...\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates\
- Click Add new location...
- From the Path field, delete Microsoft\Templates\
- Click Browse...
- Continue on to Step 10 below
- Double-click the Riverpoint Writer folder
- Click OK
- Check the box next to Subfolders of this location are also trusted
- Click OK
- Click OK
- Click OK
- Close Word
- Reopen Riverpoint Writer
Note: Enabling macros in Trust Center Settings will correct the issue; however, it is not recommended as potentially dangerous code can run.
Alternative option to enable macros
- Once Riverpoint Writer is installed, open Word
- Select Enable Content after closing the macro message
- If prompted to save Riverpoint Writer template select no
- Close Word
- Reopen Riverpoint Writer
Note: Adding the new location can also allow Microsoft Office to work in Office 2016 (Microsoft).
