Enable or Disable ActiveX in Internet Explorer

Question:
How do I enable or disable ActiveX Filtering within Microsoft Windows Internet Explorer?
Answer:
To enable or disable ActiveX Filtering, please visit the following link:
Note: The version of Internet Explorer can be selected in the upper-right of the webpage.
Additionally, ActiveX Filtering in Internet Explorer 9+ can prevent Adobe add-ons from functioning properly, as it disables ActiveX controls. Some symptoms of this include:
  • Adobe Flash Player not being detected
  • Flash Player content not playing despite being enabled and up-to-date
  • PDF's not displaying in the browser despite Adobe Reader being current, configured, and enabled (e.g. Letter Center letters or PDF Full Text articles from the University Library)
Note: In some cases, you may need to perform the steps below:
  1. Right-click the blank box where the content should be displayed
  2. Click Play
The Flash Plug-in will initialize and then load the missing content.
