Format Speaker Notes in Microsoft PowerPoint

Question:
How do I get my speaker notes in Microsoft PowerPoint to be in APA format?
Answer:
Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 and 2010:
  1. Open the presentation
  2. Click the View tab
  3. Click Notes Master
  4. Click in to the second large box (as if you were going to type in to it)
  5. Click on the Home tab
  6. In the Font section, set the Font Style and Font Size
  7. In the Paragraph section, click the line spacing button (with the up and down arrows) then select Line Spacing Options
    1. Under Spacing, set Before and After to 0 pt
    2. Select Double from the Line Spacing drop-down
    3. Click the Tabs button
    4. Set Default tab stops: to 0.5 using the up/down arrows next to the box
    5. Click OK on the Tabs window
    6. Click OK on the Paragraph window
  8. If needed, type the Running Head in to the Header box at the top left
  9. Click the Notes Master tab
  10. Check/Uncheck any desired features in the Placeholders section
  11. Click Close Master View on the right
The 1st large box is the Slide Image (where the slide will show) and the 2nd large box is for the Body (where the speaker notes will be)

If you type your notes in the Normal view (where all the slides show on the left, active slide in the middle, and notes at the bottom), the APA formatting (font style, size, spacing, etc.) will not show. You will need to click on the View tab and select Notes Page in order to view/edit notes with formatting. To ensure your Instructor sees the notes with the proper formatting, make sure you are in this view before you save the file once you are finished.
