Unable to Copy Text in Adobe Reader
Symptom:
When attempting to copy text from a Portable Document Format (PDF) file such as my syllabus or eBook, I am not able to select the text to copy.
Cause:
Two (2) things could be causing this to happen:
  • The Select Tool is not enabled
  • Copy content is not Allowed
Resolution:
To enable the Select Tool, perform the following:
Select Tool
  1. Right-Click anywhere on the document page in Adobe Reader
  2. Left-click on Select Tool
  3. Attempt to select and copy the text
Copy Content
  1. Click File
  2. Click Properties
  3. Click Security tab
  4. Verify that Content Copying is Allowed. If it states Not Allowed you will not be able to copy the content of this file
