Browser Download Manager Preferences

Question:
How do I change where my browser saves files?
Answer:
To change where the browser saves files, perform the following:
Microsoft Windows Internet Explorer 9 and Higher
View Downloads
  1. Click the Gear icon (Tools)
  2. Click View Downloads
Change Default Download Location
  1. Click the Gear icon (Tools)
  2. Click View Downloads
  3. Click Options
  4. Click Browse
  5. Select the folder desired
  6. Click Select
  7. Click OK
Note: Internet Explorer 9 is the first version with a download manager. The manager cannot be set to ask for download location every time. Selecting Save As from the Save dropdown is required to pick a location.
Google Chrome
View Downloads
  1. Click the Chrome menu  on the browser toolbar
  2. Click Downloads
Change Default Download Location
  1. Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Show advanced settings...
  4. Click Change under Downloads
  5. Select the folder desired
  6. Click OK
Always Prompt for Download Location
  1. Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Show advanced settings...
  4. Check Ask where to save each file before downloading under Downloads
Mozilla Firefox
View Recent Downloads
  1. Click Firefox (or Tools)
  2. Click Downloads
Change Default Download Location
  1. Click Firefox (or Tools)
  2. Click Options
  3. Click General
  4. Select Save files to (if not selected)
  5. Click Browse
  6. Select the folder desired
  7. Click OK
  8. Click OK
Always Prompt for Download Location
  1. Click Firefox (or Tools)
  2. Click Options
  3. Click General
  4. Select Always ask me where to save files
  5. Click OK
Apple Safari (Mac OS X)
View Downloads
  1. Click Window
  2. Click Downloads
Change Default Download Location
  1. Click Safari
  2. Click Preferences
  3. Click General
  4. Select Other from the Save downloaded files to: dropdown
Note: Safari does not have an option to prompt for download location.
